ENCORE!!!

I remember one of my all time favorite games...Encore! I am pretty sure that this game was made for the Hansen family. I would usually loose when I was put up against my older sisters but it was still fun. I am pleased to announce that they still make the game! What a great idea for a Christmas present. Oh I forgot...Marenda has me and I am pretty sure she finished her Christmas shopping by Presidents day. ;)

So here is the deal (I am copying my sister-in-law Kari because she is so cool) I am going to start a game on my blog because if I know my sisters they will go nuts. Any and all of my friends and family are welcome to play.

Here is how the game goes...

  • I am going to pick a word - for example "Happy"

  • Each person has to think of a song that has not been sung yet, with that word in it and be able to remember at least 8 lyrics or words in a row. Example: "Happy Birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you"

  • We will have one round each day until we run out of songs and you are out if by the end of the day (midnight my time) you can't think of a song.

  • Who ever wins gets to pick the next word.

Sounds fun hu!?! I bet you can't resist playing with me.

Alright...In honor of Mothers Day the word is: Mom or any version of Mother

  1. "Mother I love you, Mother I do. Father" (Children's Songbook)

Round 1 ... (Wednesday)I must say you were all extremely creative! And I am so excited you wanted to play. :)

Our current contestants are:

  • Me
  • Kendra Halterman
  • Foote (Andrew)
  • Neera Jackson
  • Preston Hickman
  • Camille Foote
  • Trina Harding
  • Serena Rosenhan
  • Blair Rosenhan
  • Brian Reynolds
  • Kerali Reynolds
  • Kalen Reynolds
  • Trysten Reynolds
  • Kari Hickman

Round 2 (Thursday)

Here is my song:

2. "The mama's on the bus go 'shhh! shhh! shhh!'" (The Wheels on the Bus)

Contestants are:

  • Me
  • Trina
  • Kerali
  • Preston
  • Kendra
  • Kalen
  • Trysten
  • Brian (Show off! I better only count that as one round)
  • Foote
  • Camille
  • Neera
  • Kari

Round 3...(Friday)OK lets clarify...The idea is to think of the songs from the nether regions of your brain and see how many you can come up with. Referencing your personal collection of music would be acceptable but searching the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS makes it a little bit unfair for the rest of us. OH and only do 1 song per day please. If the competition is still strong than next round we will do more than one to knock a few people off, like myself. So lets start fresh with round 3. I am not sure I have more than 1 round left in me.

Here is my song:

3. "Where cosily curl'd on mother's brest, my share o' the world, you'll rest till dawn." (A Lullaby, by Hamilton Harty) I did this one in voice lessons

Contestants so far are:

  • Me
  • Trina
  • Kendra
  • Foote
  • Kari
  • Neera
  • Camille
  • Trysten - (Yes you guys are still in and you can always catch up if you miss a day. I am keeping track)
  • Kalen
  • Kerali

Round 4 - Double Trouble (Saturday)...this time to stay in the game you must think of 2 songs. And the competition heats up!!! I am pretty sure that I am out unless I think of some songs today. So I have learned that not only do my big sisters beat me at this game but my nieces too (if they get two for round 4 and I am pretty sure they will).

Here are my songs:

4. "Round yon virgin mother and child. Holy infant" (Silent Night)

5. "Where a mother laid her baby In a manger" (Once in Royal David's City)

Contestants for today are:

  • Trina
  • Foote
  • Kendra
  • Shanda
  • Kari
  • Neera
  • Camille

Round 5 (Sunday) We will do Double Trouble again. 2 Songs please. Man, you guys are good!!! I am pretty sure I am out this round.

Contestants for today are:

  • Foote
  • Camille
  • Trina
  • Kendra
  • Kari

Round 6 (Monday) 3 for the Money!!! You guys are too good so today you must do 3 songs each. And if you see a repeat speak up because it is hard to keep track. Have a happy Monday!

Contestants for today are:

  • Kendra
  • Trina
  • Foote
  • Kari

Round 7 (Tuesday) 3 for the Money!!! All right...someone has got to win this thing! You guys are amazing!

Todays contestants are:

  • Kendra
  • Foote
  • Kari (really...Spice Girls!?!)

Ok, I've got two, is that allowed?

1. "Mamas, don't let your babies grow up to be cowboys. . ."

2. "Ma, he's makin' eyes at me.
Ma, he's awful nice to me.
Ma, he's almost breakin' my heart, I'm beside him, mercy let his conscience guide him,
Ma, he wants to marry me,
be my honey bee.
Every minute he gets bolder, now he's leaning on my shoulder,
Ma, he's kissin' me!"

(I think Kerali and Serena sang this in a group a way back)

--Trina

Serena says...

"My Mama done told me,when I was in pigtails, My mama done told me, Hun, a man's gonna sweettalk and give you the big eye, but when the sweet talkins done, a man is a two-face, a worrisome thing, who'll leave you to sing the blues in the night"

(Blues in the Night - Various Artists)

But Blair says...

"You wake up late for school, man you don't wanna go
You ask you mom, "Please?", but she still says, "No!"
You missed two classes, and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk"

CHORUS: "You gotta fight for your right to party"

"Your mom busted in and said, "What's that noise?"
Aw, mom you're just jealous it's the Beastie Boys!"

(The Beastie Boys - Fight for your Right)

Brian's contribution:

(Skipping the more graphic first lyrics) from Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody:" " . . . Mama, Life had just begun, and now I've gone and thrown it all away. Mama, Ohhhh...."

Here's mine: "What do you leave to your child when youre dead
Only what ever you put in its head
Things that your mother and father had said
Which were left to them too." -"Children will Listen" from Into the Woods

And on a much less morbid note, "When I was just a little girl, I asked my mother, what will I be? Will I be pretty, will I be rich? Here's what she said to me: 'Que sera, sera, whatever will be will be. The future's not ours to see. Que sera, sera."

I have one that hasn't been used yet. LL Cool J - Mamma said knock you out. I'm gonna knock you out.

is the object to publish as many as possible to take away from everyone else's options and the most songs win? I'm a little confused. If so I've got a list of 48 that aren't listed yet.

Mama's gonna by you a diamond ring.

Disco Mom said...

Ok, I'm late in the game and a little overwhelmed with the comments but I'm giving it my 2 cents. I noticed not everyone did 8 lines to the song like stated in the rules...

Misguided Angel by Cowboy Junkies:

I said "Mama, he's crazy and he scares me
But I want him by my side
Though he's wild and he's bad
And sometimes just plain mad
I need him to keep me satisfied"

I said "Papa, don't cry cause it's alright
And I see you in some of his ways
Though he might not give me the life that you wanted
I'll love him the rest of my days"

AND

Brother and Sister by Erasure:

Brother and sister
And father of mine
Keep us together
And keep us in line
A lot we depend on
A lot we can do
Send love to mother
I'll be good to you (I'll be good to you)

Shanda said...

Kari,

It is a minimum of 8 lyrics or words. But you rock with 8 lines! I'm glad you joined the game. :)

Kendra@My Insanity said...

I don't know Shanda, there are still a lot of songs floating around in the recesses of my mind. This could go on for quite some time.

For today:

"Show her where to park her girdle
Oh, her mother's blood'll curdle
If she'd hear her baby's queer
For all that jazz" (Chicago--the musical)

"I see my mother kneeling, with our family each day." (Love is Spoken Here--Children's songbook)

"I often go walking in meadows of clover.....dear mother all flowers reminds me of you" (Children's songbook).

I know it's a little hard to keep track now, but Shanda, didn't you already do the "Wheels on the bus"?

Kendra

kingfoote said...

I'm assuming that we are still asking for three mom songs. If today we are graduating to four, I am prepared. Here now are Foote's contributions. I would like to apologize up front for the long entry from Alice's Restaurant (3), the song as a whole is quite amusing, but the one line with Mother in it by itself does seem disturbing therefore I have included well more of the lyrics to put it into context.

1. Garth Brooks - 'Til the sun comes up

Mammas on the front porch screamin' out her warning, better get your red head back in bedbefore the mornin'

2. Johnny Cash - Boy Named Sue

Well my daddy left home when I was three, and he didn't leave much for Ma and me

3. Arlo Guthrie - Alices Resturaunt

the Group W bench is where they put you if you may not be moral enough to join the army after committing your special crime and there were all kinds of mean nasty ugly lookin' people on the bench, there was mother rapers, father stabbers, father rapers, father rapers sittin' right there on the bench next to me and ... and the meanest, ugliest, nastiest one; the meanest father raper of them all was coming over to me ... and he sat down nest to me and said kid, what you get? And I said I didn't get nothing, I had to pay $50 and pick up the garbage. And he said what were you arrested for? And I said littering. And they all moved away from me on the bench ... 'til I said "and creating a nuisance" and they all came back, shook my hand and we had a great time

You can get anything you want at Alices Resturaunt.
